Valentine’s Day is coming soon, February is the month of love, and it is the ideal time to celebrate, give thanks, and re-connect with our beloved.
Have you and your partner fallen into a routine, where life has become stressful, or you feel you don’t have enough time for intimacy? Do you wish to re-ignite that spark of passion and desire that you had back when you first met? Did you know that it is actually a lot easier to re-connect with ancient Tantric Practices and a deeper understanding of the science of love?
Our nervous system is wired for deeper connections and we can come back to that fresh and passion-filled experience within and with our partner, when we make the time to consistently practice these 5 key emotional-energetic, physical, and mindset exercises:
5 Keys To Deeper Intimacy and Connection with Your Yourself (It begins within) and Your Partner:
1) Practice Mindfulness: (Let go of judgement) The practice of mindfulness meditation is non-judgmental moment to moment awareness and active listening that creates a safe space within and also with your partner where you can both fully feel and express your authenticity, where emotions can flow. This will increase comfort levels for optimal communication and relating. Witness yourself and others as if you were a video camera. The video camera films whatever it sees, without any criticism. Practice being the observer and if thoughts arise, simply observe them, take a deep breath, and sigh out those thoughts. Ahhhh sounds as we exhale support us to feel the vibrational sensations which also calm our nervous system.
2) Be Vulnerable: Cultivate deeper intimacy with yourself to be able to deepen intimacy with your partner. How we relate with ourselves is how we relate with our partners. Intimacy is a sense of another person fully knowing you, and loving you because of who you are—as well as in spite of it. This requires being able to feel and witness our true, authentic feelings, being honest, and allowing ourselves to be vulnerable in a safe and supportive environment. The more you open up and share vulnerably, the deeper the intimacy with grow. You will experience a closer connection and this feeling of “being home” in the presence of your partner. Do you feel a sense of relaxed pleasure when you think about and see your partner? This is ideal to deepen intimacy and connection over time.
3) Forgive: Be willing to create space and time in your relationship with yourself and your partner to embrace and process past hurts, resentments, cultivate forgiveness, grow, and learn from the past. Commit to cultivating a growth mindset, where we see the gifts of the challenges and failures of the past. Make forgiveness a daily practice, be open and willing to process and transform our wounds into wisdom. Resentment and unprocessed hurts create barriers to intimacy. 4) Get Out Of Your Head And Into Your Sensual Body: Awaken Your Sensual Body and Connect To Your Heart so that you can feel more. Listen to this guided Meditation HERE to connect to your sensual body.
Close your eyes and place your hand over your chest. Feel the expansion of your breath as you inhale through the nose for a count of 5. Exhale through your mouth while creating a sigh, Ahhh sound. Do this for a count of 8. This will also calm and relax your nervous system. Do this a few times. Feel the breath expanding in your body. Notice how this makes you feel. Are you more relaxed and centered after a few rounds of this type of 5:8 breathing pattern?
Now bring your attention to the sounds in the room and the sound of you breathing. Then Bring your awareness to the taste in your mouth, the scent of your body and the room that you are in. Notice through the senses yourself and your surroundings. This heightened sense of yourself and your environment causes you to be more fully embodied and present.
Notice if it feels pleasurable to experience through your senses. What is your relationship to receive pleasure in your body? Or are you judging and criticizing yourself and your sensations and surroundings? Is your body in a state of calm or do you feel chronic stress, tension, and discomfort? How we feel is how we attract. A deeper connection is about choosing to feel everything, and with a safe and supportive intention, with acceptance.
5) Share new experiences together: Have a shared experience that you both enjoy and can create new lasting memories together. It can be as easy as taking a walk in a new park, or taking a class together such as ballroom dancing, or pottery, or playing a sport of workout together. What is important is that you both genuinely are motivated to learn this and together. Cooking a meal, traveling to new places, and creating together or re-designing or organizing a room, might be just the new experience you were looking for!
